Klaas Jan Huntelaar

We recently launched www.klaasjanhuntelaar.com last Thursday. We actually released it in a hurry after we received an SMS saying that if we wanted to release the site in full glory we should do it tomorrow. So we did and that day it was announced that he would go to AC Milan. We had a short marketing action and appeared for several hours on the first page of Google when you typed in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar in Google.

Although programmers and designers are generally not known for their sporting performance, Lightmaker has a long tradition in developing sports-related sites. With pride we add the name of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to our portfolio in this area.

Mud, sweat and grass
To show his strength and passion for football we developed a strong visual site for Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. The site shows personal information and the latest news out of the most reliable source: Klaas-Jan Huntelaar himself. The design is focused around his person and the game. Each section has a separate portrait photo, modified to convey a distinct look and feel. This mud, sweat and grass look was obtained through the use of many different filters and textures. To keep the site visually attractive across different resolutions and browser sizes, the background and other images act as "floating elements". In this way, the design of the site is independent of the resolution of the screen or size of the browser. To add further value to the site, each portrait image can be downloaded as desktop wallpaper in three popular sizes.

Flash GAIA framework
The site was developed in Flash using the Gaia frame work. We used Flash because it offers the greatest potential for a large site with a lot of visuals and user interaction. The GAIA framework provides a development environment that allow us to manage and change many important functions in a simple way and ensure that institutions? Standards maybe? are consistently implemented. These are loaders, deep linking, asset management, transitions and navigation. In addition, GAIA offers as standard, functionality such as indexable Flash sites, that allow us to optimize our websites for search engines.

PHP / MySQL CMS
Klaas Jan Huntelaar's previous site had a PHP / MySQL based Content Management System (CMS). In order to maintain this content, we adjusted this CMS, enabling a seamless connection to the new site.
