Whilst their books can show off the posh cars, beautiful hotels and glorious British countryside that make up the road trips, taking the concept online offers customers a lot more opportunities. Smith users can make up their own route by carefully selected Smith stop off points along the way.  Their itinerary can then be printed out or emailed, ready for the long weekend ahead.  
The Route Planner was developed as a mash-up; taking different technologies and services from the web and fusing them together to create new and innovative functionality. Microsoft Virtual Earth’s mapping was mixed with Microsoft MapPoint for directions and Mr and Mrs Smith’s custom data to display pitstops and places on the map. The whole experience is made smooth and seamless thanks to the use of JavaScript to display large amounts of controls and options.
