The World Olympian Association (WOA) had an e-mail system that past and present Olympians used for communication purposes. The association wanted to expand this system to create a dynamic, secure community that Olympians could use to proactively communicate with one another and access information, such as job postings, that would help Olympians continue their success after the Olympic Games.
The WOA teamed with Microsoft and Lightmaker, who created a community application that runs on the desktop-not the Web. They created the application with Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows Communication Foundation both part of the Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.0. "Thanks to Windows Presentation Foundation, today, the WOA has a community desktop application that includes internal e-mail systems, videos, photos, chat, blogging, and everything else a community would need-all presented in a very appealing way," comments Barrett.
"Windows Communication Foundation and Windows Presentation Foundation helped us create a user-friendly, functional, and visually appealing community application that increases the level of interaction and participation among Olympians and former Olympians," says Barrett.
