Welcome to Lightmaker Manchester
Back in 2005, Matt Farrar lit the Lightmaker flame in the Northern outpost of Manchester, since then the team has grown from Matt and Ant to the 20 strong team of today. Our office is just off Deansgate, the 6th floor vantage point offering views out across the city and some great photo opportunities. The Manchester team are proud to have worked with some top clients in the last three years resulting in some award winning sites - and all that on a diet of pies, whippets and real ale. We've had the chance to work alongside MTV on the European Music Awards, create the Liberty site and design the new Habitat ecommerce solution to name but a few. 2008 promises to deliver some of our best work yet - we'll keep you posted!
Our aim was to make the website a sophisticated and sleek online haven, just like Habitat's offline stores already are. Products are the focus and so we created a website look and feel that allowed these to be shown off to full advantage. Check out the flash pieces we created that really make Habitat's photography stand out - why over-complicate things? Slick design that shows off Habitat's ambient photography plus attention to usability and accessibility to products equals a great website.
The site we designed, built by technical lead Fresca, is html based with bits of flash based slickness provided by Lightmaker. We work with the client on a monthly basis to ensure the site is always fresh and in line with seasonal updates.
The MTV European Music Awards is an annual show where all us (ahem) young MTV viewers are able to honour our favourite artists of the year. It's a sparkling star studded event, hosted in 2007 by Snoop Dogg.
As the event was being hosted in the infamous Munich Olympiahalle, the theme was sport meets music and stage diving took on a whole new meaning. Lightmaker built some cracking 3D movies, melding the sport and music theme and lifting all the pages. The site allowed fans to vote for artists in all the categories and nominate any acts that weren't shortlisted. This might sound fairly simple, but when you take into account that the site is available in 19 countries and languages, each with their own nominees, it becomes more of a feat. Lightmaker worked marvels in getting the voting mechanism up and running. It integrates with MTV's system from the 1980s to provide a tamper proof system for all those pesky computer geeks and real time updates for MTV.
